United Nations Day: Young Voices, Global Impact
At Imagine REEvolution, we believe change starts with connection.
Connection between generations, between communities and between the local and the global.
This United Nations Day, we’re celebrating how our work here in the local community connects to something much bigger: the global movement for a more sustainable, inclusive and compassionate world.
One of our youngest volunteers, Athena, aged 10, reminds us that it doesn’t matter how old you are, your voice has power. In her own words,
“Imagine REEvolution's purpose links well to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. If we partnered with the United Nations, we would help raise awareness, but we'd also help people notice that we have a sustainable way of using our items at Imagine, and we also are trying to end the cycle of poverty.”
Athena’s insight captures exactly what drives us. At Imagine REEvolution, our programs aren’t just creative, they’re purposeful. Every workshop, every reused or repurposed material, every conversation between a young person and a volunteer is a small step toward achieving the same goals that the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) champion: ending poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring peace and prosperity for all.
How We Connect Local Action to Global Goals
When our young people repurpose materials or share ideas across generations, they’re actively contributing to several UN goals, even if they don’t realise it yet.
Goal 1: No Poverty - By providing young people with skills, purpose and pathways to employment, we’re breaking cycles of disconnection and disadvantage.
Goal 3: Good Health and Wellbeing - We create safe, inclusive spaces that nurture mental health, belonging and self worth.
Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production - Our commitment to reuse, repair and upcycle reduces waste and teaches sustainability in action.
Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals - Through collaborations with schools, local organisations and volunteers of all ages, we show how powerful community partnerships can be.
The Power of Imagination
The UN’s vision for a better world mirrors our mission to RESTORE, EDUCATE and EVOLVE (the REE in our Imagine REEvolution) because real change begins when people feel connected, valued and hopeful.
Love is at the heart of everything we do. Whether it’s a child discovering their creativity, a volunteer sharing life skills, or a community coming together to support one another, we’re proving that local action can have global ripple effects.
This United Nations Day, we’re proud to stand alongside global changemakers, and even prouder still to see that the next generation, like Athena, already understands that imagination and compassion can change the world.
