Why We Do It For Free….
People often ask us at Imagine Re-Evolution why we do what we do, and why we do it for free.
The answer is simple: because removing obstacles matters.
For many young people, the number one reason they can’t attend a program or walk into a safe community space comes down to cost. By making our space free, we take away that barrier.
When you sit at our table, it’s never about how much money you have, it’s about how we can build a community together. That’s what truly matters.
Of course, if a young person has an NDIS plan and wants wellbeing support, we’ll work with that. And yes, as a charity we won’t say no to money if you can make a contribution. But it’s never an expectation. Just as there’s never an expectation placed on a young person who walks through our doors.
A Space Without Pressure
At Imagine, there is no “you must.” No pressure to participate. No checklist to tick off.
A young person might come in, sit quietly on the couch and work on a puzzle. They might spend time exploring the space, figuring out whether it feels right for them. And we celebrate that as a win, because showing up is a huge first step.
On the other hand, they might dive straight into every program we offer. And that’s a win too.
The point is: it’s always about meeting young people where they are.
The Power of Connection
We’ve seen it over and over again. Within just a few hours of being here, something shifts. A smile, a laugh, a shared conversation. A connection with a volunteer or a spark of friendship with another young person.
Why? Because they’re given permission to just be themselves.
We live in a world full of “what’s next?”
• What are you going to be when you grow up?
• What will you do when you finish school?
• When are you getting a job? Getting married? Having kids?
It’s always about the next stage, the next expectation. Rarely do we stop and simply appreciate where we are right now.
At Imagine, we hold space for the present moment.
We give young people the rare gift of breathing room. To be themselves, without anyone telling them who or what they need to be. And in that freedom, confidence grows, friendships form, and purpose is discovered.
Doing What We Can, With What We Have
Our volunteers give what they can. We, as an organisation, do what we can. And somehow, it’s enough. Because the heart of Imagine Re-Evolution isn’t in resources or funding (though we’ll always welcome support!). It’s in people showing up for each other.
It’s a privilege to hold this space. A privilege to watch young people unfold, in their own time, in their own way.
And it’s a privilege to say, “At Imagine Re-Evolution, you don’t have to be anything. You just get to be.”
